For me, this painting in its essence represents balance.

I wanted the first glance being of this gorgeous pair, sun setting, enjoyment, peace. But when you look deeper, there’s a whole other story behind it

I’ve been dealing with my own shadow side for a long time, and this piece is also a reminder for me to accept and love myself fully, and that EVERYONE is complicated, deep, diverse, emotionally rich and not just what you see on the surface. And you love them. You accept them. So you must accept yourself. Even the shadow side.

I chose a 20 year old photo of my grandma and her husband as a reference, but of course deciphered it in reflection of me, with her.. as adults.. enjoying a vacation together somewhere warm, with expensive drinks and outfits that we just bought, laughing and just being full of support and love.

I painted in some elements from my grandparents house, and colors that remind me of my grandmas fierce energy.

This painting is in memory of my late Sirkku-Mummi. It’s been 10 years already but I remember you clear as day.

I love and miss you forever.

She knew me before I was me. She saw tIm sad she wont be able to see me finally live without it.
