Ame Indigo Kärkkäinen

AME INDIGO KÄRKKÄINEN (b.2000) is a finnish visual artist raised between Helsinki and the archipelago, focusing on materials like oil paint, upcycled / found / gifted objects, clay and wood. Lately they’ve been testing different ways to combine natural pigments and things like seeds and earth collected/bought/ gifted on travels, to natural elements found here in Finland

Kärkkäinen has created art in many places of this world, most dearest ones to the heart being collaborations with local artists in various projects and performances in Salvador, Brasil, and an installation ( HISTÓRIAS DE ALEGRIA, ENTRELAÇADAS ATRAVÉS DAS MEMÓRIAS 2026 ) in the mountain range of Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, Palomino, Colombia

kärkkäinen is greatly inspired by ancient finnish beliefs and paganism, activism and different plants around the world. Their loved ones and experiences often show up unconsciously in their work. Kärkkäinen combines this with their knowledge, curiosity and experiences of history denied , spirituality , medicinal properties of plants, queerness and the natural world of colors to create visually memorable pieces, that have multiple layers of memories imbedded, often depicting the human condition, its hardships and beauty.
